It sounds fiddly and it absolutely is, which is exactly the point. Punching in the wrong sequence while a Charger is bearing down on you is both a systems failure and a great story to tell after the session ends. Friendly fire is always active, full stop. Orbital strikes do not discriminate. Mechs can clip teammates. Grenades bounce. This is not a flaw, it is the texture of the game, and it means the moment a team starts communicating and playing carefully, the difficulty curve starts to feel rewarding rather than punishing. Solo play is technically possible but the game clearly did not have that in mind, and trying it at higher difficulties is an exercise in humility.
