About Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2021 Non-binding
What is Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2021?
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2021 is a perpetual-licence version of the Office suite released by Microsoft in October 2021, aligned with the Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022 release cycles. "Perpetual" means you pay once and own it indefinitely — no annual subscription required. It sits above the consumer-facing "Home & Business" and "Professional" retail editions and is the edition historically volume-licensed to enterprises, though product keys circulate widely through authorised resellers and secondary markets.
It targets business users who need the complete desktop productivity stack and do not want to commit to a Microsoft 365 subscription.
What's included
Office Professional Plus 2021 ships with the following desktop applications:
- Word 2021
- Excel 2021
- PowerPoint 2021
- Outlook 2021
- OneNote 2021
- Publisher 2021 (Windows only)
- Access 2021 (Windows only)
Publisher and Access are the key differentiators versus the standard "Professional" consumer edition and the Home & Business tier. If you need database tools (Access) or desktop publishing (Publisher), this is the edition that includes them.
Note: Microsoft Teams is **not** bundled with Office Professional Plus 2021. Microsoft decoupled Teams from the Office 2021 suite; it must be downloaded and licensed separately if needed.
Feature improvements over Office 2019 include co-authoring enhancements, new Excel functions (XLOOKUP, dynamic arrays), improved dark mode across apps, and updated meeting and collaboration features in Outlook. It does not, however, receive new features on an ongoing basis — that is the domain of Microsoft 365.
Licence & activation
Keys sold for this title are typically **MAK (Multiple Activation Keys)** or **volume licence keys** rather than consumer retail keys. Activation is done via the standard Microsoft activation servers — enter the key during install or inside any Office app under File > Account > Activate.
**OEM vs retail:** Most third-party keys for Office Professional Plus 2021 are volume or OEM-channel keys. These are typically tied to the machine they are first activated on and are not transferable if you replace your PC. Genuine Microsoft retail licences (sold in box or via the Microsoft Store) are transferable to a new machine after deactivating on the old one. If transferability matters to you, confirm the licence type with the seller before purchasing.
There is no Microsoft account requirement to activate or run Office Professional Plus 2021, though signing in unlocks OneDrive integration and licence management features.
Delivery is digital: you receive a product key by email, download the installer from Microsoft's own servers (Office Deployment Tool or a direct link), and enter the key to activate.
Is it worth it?
For users who need Access or Publisher and prefer a one-time purchase over a recurring subscription, Office Professional Plus 2021 is a practical choice. The core apps are mature and widely compatible with business file formats.
The honest caveats: this version reached end of mainstream support in October 2025, meaning Microsoft no longer delivers non-security fixes or new features. Extended security support (security patches only) continues until October 2026 — so from the point of purchase today, the product is in its final security-support window and will reach full end-of-life in roughly a year. It will not gain new features. Users who want AI-assisted writing tools (Copilot), ongoing feature releases, or easy device transferability are better served by a Microsoft 365 subscription.
If you do not need Access or Publisher, cheaper perpetual options (Office Home & Business 2021, or Home & Student) cover the core apps at lower price points.
OEM-channel keys are genuinely less expensive but carry the machine-lock trade-off. That is a real limitation — weigh it honestly against your needs before choosing on price alone.
What you're buying
A licence key for the Office edition shown — perpetual keys are a one-time purchase you own for that version; subscription keys cover a fixed term. We label which is which so a one-year subscription never looks cheaper than a lifetime licence.
Delivery & activation
Every offer we list is a digital license delivered by email — usually within minutes of purchase. You buy on the store; we only compare live prices and link you out. No physical disc, no shipping.
Why is the same office & productivity a different price at each store?
Stores compete on digital licence prices and run different regional and promotional deals, so the identical licence can vary widely between them. We track every store live and surface the lowest current price — the same approach behind our cross-store price study. Prices update continuously; check the comparison above for today's cheapest.
Frequently asked questions
All Office & productivity →Office 2021 vs Microsoft 365 — which should I buy?
Office 2021 (and other perpetual versions) is a one-time purchase you keep forever, ideal if you do not need the latest features. Microsoft 365 is a subscription that always updates and adds OneDrive storage and multi-device installs. Pay-once = perpetual; always-current + cloud = 365.
Is a cheap Office key legitimate?
We compare offers from established stores. Read the offer details: a genuine retail/OEM Office licence activates through your Microsoft account. We keep cheaper shared accounts in a separate, clearly-labelled tier.
Does an Office key include Word, Excel and PowerPoint?
Yes — the core suite includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote; Professional editions add Outlook, Publisher and Access. Project and Visio are licensed separately.
Can I install Office on more than one PC?
A perpetual licence covers one PC. Microsoft 365 subscriptions allow multiple devices. Check the offer for the exact device allowance.
