Enter your players, server type and view distance to get a recommended RAM allocation. It's an estimate — tune it to your specific modpack and world.
Estimate only. Large modpacks and complex worlds may need more — start here and tune based on your TPS and GC behaviour.
Frequently asked questions
How much RAM do I need for a Minecraft server?
A small vanilla server for 1–5 players runs comfortably on 2 GB. Plugin servers (Paper/Spigot) for 10–20 players want 4–6 GB. Modded servers and large modpacks need much more — typically 6–12 GB depending on the modpack and player count.
Does more RAM make a Minecraft server faster?
Up to a point. Enough RAM prevents lag from garbage collection and chunk loading, but beyond what your world and players need, extra RAM gives diminishing returns. CPU single-thread performance often matters more for TPS.
How does view distance affect RAM?
Higher view distance loads more chunks per player, increasing RAM and CPU use. Dropping from 12 to 8 chunks can noticeably reduce memory pressure on busy servers.
