Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator- is Arc System Works' love letter to sprite animation and mechanical depth. Every character feels distinct, with wildly different playstyles that reward learning specific combos and spacing rather than mashing buttons. The visuals are genuinely striking, that cel-shaded 2D aesthetic still holds up because the animation quality is relentless. Story mode exists and tells something, which matters more in fighting games than people admit. The catch: this is a game for players who already know fighting games or are willing to spend real time in training mode. Online netcode from 2016 feels dated by modern standards, and the PC port lacks the polish of current Arc releases. If you're chasing an approachable entry point, look elsewhere.
