CHUCHEL is a point-and-click adventure built almost entirely out of one idea: what if cartoon slapstick was a playable thing? The titular Chuchel is a small, grumpy, fur-covered creature whose single motivation is retrieving a cherry that keeps getting stolen, squashed, or cosmically rearranged. Each scene is a self-contained puzzle-vignette, usually lasting two to four minutes, and the whole game moves at the tempo of a Saturday morning cartoon from a slightly fever-dreamed alternate universe. Amanita Design - the studio behind Machinarium and Samorost - brings their signature hand-drawn sensibility here, but pointed squarely at comedy rather than melancholy wonder. The Cherry Edition bundles the full game with a 44-minute original soundtrack from Czech band DVA and an 89-page digital art book containing concept sketches and development art by creator Jaromir Plachy. The soundtrack alone earns its inclusion. DVA's vocal percussion and elastic sound design sync with Chuchel's animations in a way that makes the whole experience feel like interactive music. If you play with headphones, the soundscape rewards you generously. The art book is a genuine artifact, not filler - Plachy's sketches show how a character this expressive gets distilled from rough doodles into a creature whose eyebrows communicate volumes. As a game, CHUCHEL is gentle in its difficulty. Puzzles rarely resist you for long. The design philosophy seems to be: the joke is the puzzle, and the puzzle is the joke. You click on things, Chuchel reacts with outrage or delight, and the scene resolves into a tiny animated reward. There are moments - a few arcade-style minigames embedded in the vignettes - where the difficulty spikes just enough to sting, but they pass quickly and the game never holds a grudge. Players who want a stiff cerebral challenge should look elsewhere. Players who want 4-6 hours of handcrafted animation that makes them laugh out loud in a quiet room will find exactly that here. The game is also genuinely suitable for children, which is rarer than it sounds - it achieves this without condescension, because the comedy works on multiple registers. Adults will catch the references and absurdist escalation; younger players will love Chuchel's rubber-faced fury. It is one of the few games you could hand to a seven-year-old and a forty-year-old in the same afternoon and get equal engagement from both. The pacing is tight. Amanita knew when to end this one, and they ended it at the right moment, which is a discipline more developers should practice. If there is a criticism, it is this: CHUCHEL does not ask much of you emotionally or intellectually. It is intentionally shallow water, and it stays there. For some sessions that is exactly right. For players who want narrative weight or mechanical depth, this will feel slight. That is not a flaw in execution - it is a choice, made clearly and delivered with precision.
