If you have any interest in wrestling games, 2K23's Deluxe Edition is the most content-stuffed entry point the series has offered in years, though newcomers should know the servers are down for good.

My first impression of WWE 2K23 was that Visual Concepts had quietly done something rare for an annual sports franchise: they actually made the second year feel better than the rebuild. WWE 2K22 was the comeback story, the series dragging itself off the mat after the disaster of 2K20. 2K23 is where it starts throwing combinations. The core grappling has been tightened, multi-man match targeting works far more reliably than in previous entries, and the counter system, while still timing-dependent, feels tuned rather than punishing. Controls are snappy, finishers land with real impact, and a surprisingly thorough tutorial narrated by Xavier Woods means new players are not left guessing at move inputs. The mode list is genuinely overwhelming in the best way. Showcase this year puts you in the boots of John Cena's opponents across his career's defining losses, which sounds strange on paper but plays as one of the freshest takes the mode has had in years. WarGames is the big structural addition: two rings, one giant steel cage, and the kind of 3-on-1 chaos that produces memorable moments even when the targeting logic goes sideways in a crowd of bodies. MyRise offers two separate story campaigns, "The Lock" (male created wrestler) and "The Legacy" (female created wrestler), both more focused and better paced than 2K22's scattered approach. MyGM mode lets you run one of several brands as a general manager, draft a roster, and compete for television ratings over multiple seasons. It's a legitimate time sink and the closest thing to a wrestling management sim this series has produced. Not everything holds up under scrutiny. MyFACTION, the card-collecting online mode, carries the familiar smell of a mode designed around in-game economy friction rather than fun. Multi-person tag matches can drag into endurance tests where constant pin breakups make finishes feel like they take forever. The single-player story campaigns do not allow losses to stick, so failed matches just restart rather than letting the narrative breathe. It is a recurring frustration that a game about pro wrestling, a collaborative storytelling medium, still treats every match as a binary pass-fail test. On the PC side, some players reported stability issues and crash bugs, though patches addressed a number of these after launch. One important note for anyone buying now: the online servers, including Community Creations and online matchmaking, were discontinued as of January 2025. That removes a meaningful chunk of content, particularly the community-built wrestlers and arenas that extended the game's shelf life considerably. The Deluxe Edition bundles the Season Pass and the Bad Bunny pack alongside the base game and bonus MyFACTION content, making it the complete offline package. For a returning fan who sat out 2K22, this is the fuller, more polished version of the same engine, and the offline modes alone justify the hours. For someone who already owns 2K22 and bought into that experience heavily, the year-on-year improvements are meaningful but not transformational. Purely offline players get the best deal here since none of the server-dependent content survives the 2025 shutdown. Alex, Scout Team

GamerScout Verdict

Solid offline wrestling sim with strong mode variety, but server shutdown kills online content, so buy it as a single-player package or skip.
