Skip the highlight reel. The reason to own this one is MyNBA, a franchise sim with real long-term depth, wrapped in a store economy and an onboarding that explains buttons instead of basketball.

NBA 2K27 arrives on September 3, and I know what it wants from me before it gives anything back, because this series asks for the same deposit every autumn: hours. Not just reflex hours, though your thumbs will file a complaint by week two. Calendar hours, the kind you spend in a menu with a cap sheet open, deciding whether a 29-year-old on a descending contract is an asset or an anchor. I look at sports games the way I look at a Paradox release, hunting for systems with enough internal logic that a decision I make in season one still bites me in season five. Judged that way, this is a stronger strategy purchase than the trailers imply and a weaker pick-up-and-play one. MyNBA is the whole argument. Strip away the presentation and it is a franchise management sim: season simulation, roster depth across the full league rather than a handful of marquee names, rotations, staff, the draft pipeline, and the slow arithmetic of keeping a contending window open while the books stay legal. What makes it hold up over a long save is that the league keeps moving without you. Teams you never touch age, overpay, rebuild, and become the reason your own plan works or collapses. I have burned entire weekends in modes like this without playing a full game of basketball, simming weeks at a time and dropping into the fourth quarter of the games that actually decide something. That is a specific pleasure, and 2K is one of very few places you can get it. Here is the part I want newcomers to hear, because the hundred-hour reputation scares off exactly the people who would enjoy it most. You do not have to be good at basketball to enjoy MyNBA. Set the difficulty low, put the game speed where your eyes are comfortable, and sim the majority of the schedule. Play the two or three games a month that matter. Spend the rest of your attention on the parts that are pure strategy: who you extend, who you let walk, which young player gets minutes he has not earned because you need him ready in two years. Approached that way the barrier is not execution, it is patience, and the first franchise you drag from lottery team to contender will teach you more about the underlying systems than any menu ever does. The disappointments are real and mostly familiar. The onboarding still teaches inputs rather than concepts. It will show you which stick does what and never once explain why your lineup is losing the rebounding battle, so the first ten hours feel worse than they need to. MyTEAM is the other half of the package and it runs on a different philosophy entirely: a card economy tuned to keep you opening things, with in-app purchases sitting openly in the feature list and progression pacing that clearly has a second, faster route in mind. It is playable without spending. It is not designed to feel good without spending. And because this is an annual release, some of the launch roughness will get patched into shape by November, which is a strange arrangement to accept, and also the one this genre has settled into. There is more local play here than the discourse admits. Split-screen co-op and PvP both survive, Remote Play Together is supported, and Family Sharing is on, which makes this one of the few modern sports releases where handing a second controller to someone on your couch is still a first-class option. A gamepad is effectively mandatory. What the package does not include is the thing a strategy player eventually starts wanting: official mod tooling. There is no supported workshop layer, so the community tinkering that keeps a grand-strategy title alive for six years has to happen off to the side. So, who should buy it. If your ideal evening is a rotation problem, a contract decision, and three simmed weeks in between, MyNBA alone justifies the install. If you are here for MyTEAM, go in clear-eyed about what that economy wants from you. And if you own last year's edition and mainly play exhibition games against friends, you are not missing much. Sim players should look past the marketing, though. The management game underneath is deeper than this series' reputation for annual sameness suggests. Diego, Scout Team

GamerScout Verdict

Worth it for MyNBA lifers who plan five seasons ahead; think twice if the MyTEAM card grind is what you're buying.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
