About Tank Battle: East Front
The tutorial is the best thing here, and that is not a backhanded compliment. HexWar drops you into hex-and-counter WWII combat with zoom-of-control, terrain modifiers and unit facing explained through play rather than a 40-page PDF, and within two scenarios you are already reading the map correctly: infantry holds the woods, armour flanks through open ground, artillery softens the stack you plan to hit next turn. Turn-based, single-player, no fog of chrome. It runs on anything with a screen, and a scenario fits in a lunch break. The problem is the back half of the campaign, or rather the absence of one. Just as you start planning three turns ahead and budgeting your armour losses properly, the scenario list dries up. There is no skirmish generator, no multiplayer, no mod support to extend the shelf life, and the AI defends competently but rarely does anything you have not already seen it do by scenario five. Treat it as a 10-hour tactics primer and it delivers cleanly. Expect a campaign you will replay for a year and you will be disappointed.
