Legacy of Kain: Defiance
A 2003 action-adventure that swaps between two vampire antiheroes with wildly different combat styles, held together by one of gaming's most ambitious narrative setups.
GamerScout Verdict
A narrative-first action-adventure best approached as the final chapter of a six-game saga, not a standalone action game.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.
Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

About Legacy of Kain: Defiance
I went in expecting a straightforward hack-and-slash, but Defiance is really about character contrast. You toggle between Kain, a brutal melee fighter with magic and teleportation, and Raziel, a fast, acrobatic swordsman who can phase between material and spectral realms. The puzzle design leans hard on those switching mechanics - certain doors only open for one character, certain enemies are vulnerable only in specific forms. It's clever worldbuilding through gameplay, which is rare for action games of its era. The story wraps up the Legacy of Kain saga with genuine ambition. If you've played Soul Reaver 1 and 2, you'll find payoffs here that make the whole six-game arc click into place. Combat can feel clunky by modern standards - hit detection is forgiving to a fault, and harder difficulties mostly just add enemy spam - but the narrative momentum and that character-swap mechanic kept me engaged through all 15-20 hours. Not a masterpiece, but a solid capstone for franchise devotees.
