For mythology buffs willing to overlook stiff combat and dated design in service of a rare Persian hero story.

About Garshasp: The Monster Slayer
I found myself curious about Garshasp because it dares to center a hero from Persian legend in a genre that rarely touches non-European mythology. You play as the legendary monster-slayer reclaiming an ancestral mace from supernatural enemies called Deevs, which is genuinely interesting thematically. The pixel art has character, and there's real intention in the setting. That said, the execution hasn't aged well. Combat feels stiff and unresponsive, boss patterns lack the telegraphing that makes action games readable, and the overall pacing drags. Metacritic's 49 undersells how much patience this demands, but not unfairly. If you're hunting for obscure action games with cultural backbone, this one has soul. Everyone else should look elsewhere.
