A charity-backed DLC that earns its place in the Bergson household, adding animal companions with real mechanical weight - and every cent goes to a good cause.

I'll be honest: when I first heard 'animal shelter DLC for an action RPG,' I mentally filed it under 'cosmetic cash grab.' Paws and Claws is not that, and I owe Dead Mage an apology. For those who haven't touched the base game yet, Children of Morta is a roguelite action RPG built around the Bergson family, a multi-generational household of fighters - warrior, archer, brawler, rogue, mage, berserker, and more - each with their own skill tree and playstyle, each levelling up in ways that share buffs across the entire family roster. The core loop is dungeon runs through procedurally generated caverns, narrated by a voice that genuinely makes you feel something when a family member is in danger. It sits comfortably alongside the best indie action RPGs of its generation, with an 82 on Metacritic and a Very Positive rating on Steam reflecting real player satisfaction. Paws and Claws slots into that world with surprising care. The DLC expands the Bergsons' home base with an Animal Shelter system, a whole new section of the house where deer, foxes, birds, and other creatures drop by to visit. You feed them treats - some found in dungeons, common and epic variants - and look after them through new interactive home events. In return, your animal guests provide tangible combat boosts: XP gain buffs and movement speed bonuses for whichever Bergson you're running that session. These are not vanity stats. Movement speed in particular changes how melee characters like Mark (the brawler with whip and staff) close distance on enemies, and XP acceleration matters if you're grinding the family skill tree across all seven characters. Over 100 new animations show the Bergsons interacting with these animals, and because the base game's narrator already made me care about this family more than most RPGs manage in 60 hours, watching John sit with a deer outside the house lands with actual warmth. The shelter unlocks after clearing floor 2 of the second cave, so newcomers will need to play a few hours before the DLC content becomes accessible. That pacing is actually fine. It means you understand what the family boosts mean before you start receiving them, and it gives the animal arrivals the feeling of earned comfort rather than an instant menu option. The critique I have is the same one I'd level at any home-base expansion in a genre built on forward momentum: if you are here purely for dungeon depth, boss builds, or class synergy experiments, Paws and Claws is a side room, not a new wing. The Ancient Spirits DLC, which added the dual-form character Yajouj'Majouj, is the one for pure combat players. Paws and Claws is for people who slow down between runs, who actually read the narrator text, who already love the Bergsons and want more quiet moments with them. The charity angle is not marketing decoration. All proceeds from this DLC go directly to Humane World for Animals (formerly Humane Society International), and the total raised has crossed $460,000 since launch. That does not change how the content plays, but it does change the calculation when you're deciding whether a small DLC is worth picking up at a low price point. The mechanical additions are lean but purposeful, the worldbuilding fits seamlessly into Children of Morta's established tone, and the money goes somewhere real. If you are already living inside this game, this is an easy addition. If you have not played the base game, fix that problem first - and then come back for the animals. Monika, Scout Team

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.
