GamerScout Verdict
Essential for KOF '98 purists, but thin online community means you'll mostly fight the CPU or nostalgic locals.

About ACA NEOGEO THE KING OF FIGHTERS '98 (Xbox One)
I've sunk hours into KOF '98 across arcade cabinets and emulators, and this HAMSTER port nails the essentials. The game's a tournament fighter with 38 characters, team-based mechanics that reward synergy, and a faster, looser feel than Street Fighter. If you grew up on this era of fighting games, the roster alone (Iori, Kyo, Mai) hits hard. The arcade mode story is threadbare by modern standards, but the core fighting is tight. The catch: unless you're willing to grind ranked matches or have friends willing to join you online, you'll mostly be running the CPU gauntlet. The netplay exists but the player base is sparse on Xbox. For arcade purists or KOF historians, this is the version to own. For newer fighting game fans, modern titles with larger communities are safer bets.
