GamerScout Verdict
A pristine emulation of a 27-year-old arcade classic - essential for SNK fans, niche for everyone else.

About ACA NEOGEO THE KING OF FIGHTERS '97 (Xbox One)
I've spent enough time with King of Fighters arcade ports to know when HAMSTER nails the emulation, and KOF '97 hits that mark. This is the team-based 3-on-3 fighter that defined mid-90s arcade culture outside Japan - 38 characters, each with distinct combos and super moves, zero padding. The controls feel tight through the Xbox pad, and the AI scales reasonably well across difficulty settings. Presentation is clean: original arcade art, authentic sound, and that satisfying pixel-perfect sprite work that modern 3D fighters can't replicate. The catch: this is a 27-year-old game. If you're chasing modern balance patches or online rollback netcode, you won't find either. You're buying history and execution, not innovation. Perfect for SNK diehards or anyone curious what made 2D fighters matter before the Capcom boom. Everyone else can skip it.
