I've got a soft spot for Metal Slug X because it's arcade action at its purest: grab a gun, run left-to-right, spray bullets at everything that moves, and pray you don't run out of ammo. This is the refined version of the original, with better weapon balance and more forgiving difficulty curve that actually lets you see what you paid for instead of watching your quarters disappear in seconds. It's a short game by modern standards, maybe 30-40 minutes per run, but the pixel art animation is so fluid and the feedback so immediate that you'll want another go the moment it ends. There's not much story or depth to sink into, but if you want pure arcade joy without apology, Metal Slug X delivers. The emulation is clean, controls respond instantly, and it's exactly what it's supposed to be.
