A cyberpunk brawler with genuine spark in its moment-to-moment combat, but Ninja Theory pulled the plug on development in early 2021, leaving a thin content shell and near-empty lobbies behind.

I went into Bleeding Edge already braced for the Overwatch comparisons, and yes, the class-based hero structure and frantic team objectives invite them. But the comparison only holds at surface level. Where most hero games are shooters, this one strips the ranged combat down to almost nothing and bets the whole experience on close-quarters brawling across 4v4 matches. The result is something more physical and scrappy than its genre neighbours, and for the first few hours that friction genuinely works. The roster of 13 fighters spans the standard archetypes, attackers, supports, and defenders, but the character designs are the obvious labour of love here. Ninja Theory's art direction gave each fighter a distinct cyberpunk-punk personality that makes picking a main feel like a real choice rather than a stat spreadsheet decision. Combat revolves around ability-driven combos, dodge timing, and a mod loadout system that lets you slot three upgrades per character to skew their playstyle. You might push Miko toward aggressive freeze utility rather than pure healer, or stack a defender with crowd-control mods to become a nightmare in objective zones. There is real build expression buried in there, even if the mod unlock grind is slower than it should be. The two game modes, Objective Control (a king-of-the-hill variant) and Power Cell Collection (a two-phase loot-and-deposit format), keep matches short and purposeful. Maps feature environmental hazards that add a physical dimension to team fights. The Dojo practice area is a smart inclusion that lets you drill matchups against AI before going online. On its own terms, the core loop is fun. The problem is everything surrounding it. Ninja Theory ended active development on Bleeding Edge in January 2021, less than a year after launch. The content roster was thin at release and it never grew enough to sustain a competitive scene. Two modes and five maps simply do not hold a live-service game together long-term, and critics at launch widely noted the shallow progression. Without ranked play at launch, skill-gap matchmaking was a consistent pain point, and the game's dependence on coordinated teams makes solo queue a frustrating roll of the dice. As of mid-2026, the lobbies are effectively dead on PC. Matchmaking waits can be brutal, and the cross-platform pool with Xbox only partially softens that. For the right buyer, there is still something here: a mechanically interesting brawler with confident art direction, no loot boxes, and a surprisingly clean combat system. If you have a dedicated group of friends and can guarantee full squads, the matches that click will remind you what Ninja Theory does well even outside their narrative comfort zone. But buying in solo in 2026 is a gamble that the lobby queue simply may not pay off. Go in with eyes open. Alex, Scout Team

GamerScout Verdict

Best for pre-made squads who want a slick melee brawler, but solo buyers should expect long queues and a game with no future updates.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
