About Valiant Hearts: The Collection
I went in expecting another Ubisoft action-adventure and got something entirely different: two games focused on narrative and logic rather than reflexes. Valiant Hearts originally launched years ago as a mobile/web experiment, and this collection bundles both entries with improved visuals and controls. The hook is genuine - you're solving environmental puzzles and platforming sections while following interconnected stories of soldiers and civilians caught in the Great War. The art style (hand-drawn, colorful) clashes with the subject matter in a way that somehow works, making heavy themes feel accessible rather than exploitative. What works is the emotional storytelling and puzzle design. What doesn't: the platforming feels deliberately slow-paced, which matches the contemplative tone but can feel like padding if you're hunting for mechanical challenge. This is a game about meaning, not mastery.
