Compare Tropico 4: Modern Times prices across trusted key stores and find the best deal. Developed by Haemimont Games. Published by Kalypso Media Digital. Released on 3/29/2012. Available on PC. Genres: Simulation, Strategy. Metacritic score: 78/100.

A standalone Tropico 4 expansion that fast-forwards your island into the modern era, worth it only if the base game's forgiving economy already suits you.

Think of it as Cities: Skylines with a secret police force, except the map is a single island and the citizens vote. Modern Times keeps that Haemimont formula intact and then bolts on an era jump: guide El Presidente past the Cold War and you unlock solar plants, stock exchanges, hydroponic farms and a set of modern edicts that reshape a mature economy rather than just decorating it. The campaign runs a fresh set of missions on top of the base game's systems, and sandbox mode is where the real depth lives. The caveat is that Tropico's economy has always been loose. Supply chains are shallow next to Anno or Workers and Resources, the AI opposition is more nuisance than threat, and a competent player will stabilise approval ratings by hour ten and coast. That looseness is also why I recommend it to newcomers: the tutorial and mission structure teach one system at a time, and a bad decision costs you a decade, not a save file. Come for the political comedy and the era transition, not for a punishing optimisation puzzle. Diego, Scout Team

GamerScout Verdict

Best for lapsed Tropico players who want a modern-era campaign, not for sim fans chasing deep supply chains.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
