About SWORD ART ONLINE Alicization Lycoris - Blooming of Forget-me-not
Blooming of Forget-me-not is the first major expansion for SWORD ART ONLINE Alicization Lycoris, the action-RPG adaptation of the Alicization arc. If you have not already sunk considerable time into the base game, stop here - this is pure fan-service content wrapped in additional story chapters, and it assumes you are already invested in the Underworld's cast and lore. New players should look elsewhere before circling back. The expansion adds a new story thread alongside new weapons and cosmetic outfits, which is exactly the kind of content the SAO fanbase tends to want: more time with familiar characters, more gear to slot into builds, and more scenes that lean into the franchise's signature blend of virtual-world drama and romantic tension. If you liked watching Kirito and Alice interact in the base campaign, there is more of that here, and the writing carries the same anime-faithful register the series has always used. Originality is not the goal; comfort food for existing fans is. From a mechanical standpoint, the new weapons are the most substantive addition for players who care about build variety. Whether they shift the combat meta or simply offer cosmetically distinct options with familiar numbers is the real question - and the mixed review score (49% positive across a small sample of reviews) hints that many buyers felt the content volume did not justify the ask. Filler-quest padding, a recurring problem in the base game, does not appear to have been addressed here. The expansion feels more like a content drop than a redesign. The platform situation is also worth flagging. This release targets Xbox Series X and Xbox One, which narrows the audience further. Technically the game has had stability and performance criticisms levelled at it since launch, and there is little indication this expansion resolved underlying engine issues. If you experienced frustrating frame drops or camera handling in the main game, temper expectations accordingly. Bottom line: Blooming of Forget-me-not delivers exactly what a niche expansion should - more story, more gear, more time with a cast you already love - but it does not fix the base game's weaknesses, and the tepid community response suggests the content volume is lean. Hardcore SAO fans who need more Alicization chapters will find something here. Anyone hoping this DLC elevates the experience into new territory will likely walk away feeling the hours could have been spent elsewhere. Monika, Scout Team
