The best Musou game in this sub-series in years, and the Deluxe Edition bundles in the full Season Pass so you get every scenario and weapon drop without a second purchase.

I went in expecting the usual Warriors formula and got something that actually surprised me: a reboot that strips back the franchise bloat and focuses almost entirely on what makes these games tick. Samurai Warriors 5 re-centers the whole story on two of feudal Japan's most compelling figures, Nobunaga Oda and Mitsuhide Akechi, tracing their arc from the aftermath of the Onin War through to the Incident at Honnoji. That tight narrative focus pays off in a story mode that feels more purposeful than most entries in the Warriors lineage. On the battlefield, the combat toolkit has been meaningfully expanded. You still string light and heavy attacks into crowd-clearing combos, but new Hyper Attacks flip the input order and give you mobile gap-closers that keep the pacing brisk. Rage mode charges as your combo counter climbs, which gives you a reason to stay aggressive rather than just mashing in circles. Musou Frenzy Attacks and four slottable Ultimate Skills add a satisfying layer of build customization on top, and between missions you are managing per-character skill trees, crafting and upgrading weapons, and even spending resources on castle facilities like the blacksmith and horse stables. None of it is mandatory at lower difficulties, but it is all there if you want to sink into it. The Deluxe Edition is the sensible way to buy. It includes four exclusive weapons (the Rift Blade, Masterpiece Katana, Sharpened Fang Spear, and Sky Piercer Bow), a special horse, a Skill Gem set, and the full Season Pass, which covers six additional scenario and BGM sets, five weapon sets totalling fifteen extra weapons, and six more horses. If you were ever going to touch the DLC, buying the base game separately and patching the season pass on later costs more. The honest caveats: the roster sits at 27 officers, which is smaller than long-time fans will be used to. Repetition is the genre's original sin, and Samurai Warriors 5 does not cure it. On lower difficulty settings the Ultimate Skills in particular can reduce the whole thing to a brainless spam loop. The partner AI occasionally wanders off mid-objective, camera behavior near walls is genuinely annoying, and the absence of English voice acting in battle means subtitles you will miss while you are busy mowing down a regiment. These are familiar Warriors-tax complaints rather than dealbreakers, but you should know what you are signing up for. If you have never played a Musou game, this is one of the cleaner entry points in recent memory. If you tried Dynasty Warriors 9 and bounced off the open-world experiment, this is the course-correction you were waiting for. The contained battlefield design is back, the progression systems reward the curious without punishing the casual, and co-op, including split-screen, means you can share the chaos with a friend locally or online. Eighty-two percent positive from over fifteen hundred Steam reviews is not a fluke for this genre. Alex, Scout Team

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
