DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Complete Edition Remastered
Two games in one box, and the second one (Xtreme Legends) is the half that starts mattering around hour fifteen. Doing a nostalgia lap instead? The base half covers you.
GamerScout Verdict
Worth the Complete Edition only if you play past the first campaign, since Xtreme Legends is real content, not shelf-filler.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.
Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.
We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.

About DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Complete Edition Remastered
Hu Lao Gate, my sixth or seventh attempt, and Lu Bu's health bar had barely moved. My bodyguards were down, the allied officers behind me were routing, and the correct answer turned out to be running away to take the supply camps and letting morale do the work for me. That is the lesson this series teaches everyone eventually. The thousand soldiers politely queueing up to be knocked over are the texture. The actual game is a map with officers on it and you as one very fast unit trying to be in three places at once. I have been going back to that battle since the original release, so I have opinions about which version of it belongs on your drive. Which brings us to the package, because that is the real question here. Complete Edition Remastered is two products stapled together: the remake of DYNASTY WARRIORS 3, and DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Xtreme Legends. On the original hardware those were separate purchases, and Xtreme Legends was the one veterans quietly treated as the definitive version. It was never a cosmetics drop. It was the expansion that handed you additional playable officers, standalone scenarios built around characters the main campaigns treat as scenery, meaner difficulty tuning, and further weapon progression for players who had already cleared the kingdoms. Owning the base game and owning it with the expansion were genuinely two different hobbies. So this is the rare bundle where the extra content is, in fact, content. Look at what is absent from the feature list and you will see what I mean. No soundtrack folder you will never open. No wallpapers. No exclusive recolour of a spear. What is listed instead is all stuff you touch: split-screen co-op and split-screen versus, so the couch two-player mode survives the port, full controller support including DualShock and DualSense, adjustable difficulty (which matters more than usual given how the expansion half is tuned), Steam Cloud, achievements, HDR. Two players on one screen cutting a lane through the Yellow Turban rebellion remains one of the great dumb pleasures of the format, and it is here. Who is better off with a standard edition, assuming KOEI TECMO ships one next to this? Precisely one person: the player doing a nostalgia run. If the plan is to pick Zhao Yun or Xiahou Dun, take a single kingdom's campaign to the credits, feel something at the opening cinematic, and put it down, the base half covers that in full. The Xtreme Legends material only begins paying off past the point where you have seen the same fortress gate twice and need a reason to keep going. Under fifteen hours the expansion is theoretical. Past forty it is the entire argument for the second disc existing. Now the warning, since I am the one on this team who cares about writing. The genre tags here list RPG, and I would call that generous. There are no dialogue trees, no branching arcs, no choices that echo back three chapters later. Characterisation is pre-battle voice lines and a very confident narrator, and the nearest thing to a decision you will make is whether you reach a collapsing ally before the battlefield state flips against you. The progression loop is a grind by design: clear officers, feed the numbers, unlock the better weapon, repeat on a harder setting. I happen to like that loop. I am not going to pretend it rewards a re-read the way a Larian script does. And since this is dated for the end of September 2026, nobody has verified how the remaster half actually holds up yet, so treat the visual overhaul as a promise rather than a fact. What I can tell you is that the bundling has been done honestly, which is not a sentence I get to write often.
