About Red Dead Redemption 2 Online 25 Gold Bars
I'll be straight with you: this isn't a game. It's a currency pack, and reviewing it honestly means talking about what those 25 gold bars actually buy you, whether the transaction is worth it, and what state the game receiving them is in right now. Red Dead Online uses a two-currency system. Regular in-game dollars come from missions, hunting, and trading. Gold Bars are the premium layer, and they gate a lot of the good stuff. Specialist roles like Bounty Hunter, Trader, Collector, Naturalist, and Moonshiner all require a gold bar buy-in to unlock. Beyond roles, clothing customization, certain horse tack, and camp upgrades are gold-only purchases. Twenty-five bars is a reasonable starting stack. It can cover a role license and leave you with enough to chip away at cosmetics, though dedicated players will need more if they want to unlock multiple roles without grinding. Here is the honest tension with this purchase: you can earn gold bars for free by playing. Daily challenges, co-op story missions, competitive showdowns, and free roam events all drip gold nuggets, and 100 nuggets converts to one bar automatically. It is slow, but it works. Rockstar has also run weekly bonus events that double or triple gold payouts on specific activities, so patient players can accumulate meaningfully without spending. The 25-bar pack exists for people who want to skip that grind, which is a legitimate choice to make, but it should be a conscious one. The harder question is whether Red Dead Online is worth investing in at all right now. Rockstar wound down active development years ago, and substantial new content has not arrived since. The servers are still live, seasonal events do still rotate through, and the existing role system gives a new player dozens of hours of structured progression to work through. The world itself, built on one of the best open-world foundations in modern games, still looks and feels exceptional. But if you are expecting a live-service game that keeps growing, that is not what this is anymore. The community that remains is dedicated and mostly friendly, but lobbies are quieter than they once were. For Xbox One and Xbox Series X players picking this up, the 25-bar pack makes the most sense if you are brand new to Red Dead Online and want to unlock your first role immediately rather than grind toward it. Veterans who have been playing for a while have likely already accumulated bars through gameplay and will get less value here. And if you have never touched Red Dead Online at all, the free gold you can earn through enabling two-factor authentication on your Rockstar account, combined with daily challenge rewards, might get you further than you expect before spending anything extra.
