Think of the clan DLCs the way Total War handles faction packs: same map, same rules, one radically different opening playbook. Garm, Clan of the Hounds is an add-on and it will not run without Northgard installed, so treat the base game as a hard prerequisite. What you get here is a single playable clan built around aggression, with its own faction bonuses, unique units and clan-specific upgrade path rather than new maps or a campaign. If you want the exact ability list before committing, the store page spells it out line by line. For me the appeal is purely mechanical. Garm rewrites your first twenty minutes: less time optimising food and wood curves, more pressure on neighbouring territories before their military buildings come online. That makes it a good purchase for Northgard veterans who have solved the standard economic opening and want a different set of numbers to abuse, and an easy skip for newcomers who have not yet learned the core clans. Buy it for the build variety, not for content volume.
