The first hour hands you a flying android, a wall of enemy fire, and almost no explanation, and it filters players fast. Stick with it and the game opens into fluid melee combat with real weight behind every swing, broken up by top-down and side-scrolling shooter segments that keep the pacing from ever settling into a rut. The android cast and their fractured, philosophical story swing wildly between deadpan comedy and genuine gut-punches, and that tonal whiplash is either the hook or the thing that pushes people off, there isn't much middle ground. Multiple playable perspectives and more than one ending mean the credits rolling once isn't the actual finish line, which surprises players expecting a clean single playthrough. As a Switch package, the appeal is having everything in one place and playable on the couch or on a train, which matters more here than usual given how much of the game rewards replaying it. It's not a pickup for anyone who wants a straightforward action game with a straightforward story; the deliberate obtuseness is the point, not a flaw to route around. Fans of stylish, PlatinumGames-caliber combat wrapped around a story that argues with itself will get exactly what they came for.
