GamerScout Verdict
Best for players who value narrative and community over constant gear chasing, and have patience for a slow-burn campaign.

About Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
I've sunk time into FFXIV and the appeal is clear: it's an MMO that actually cares about narrative. The main story campaign is genuinely engaging, combat feels responsive whether you're a healer or tank, and the job system lets you swap roles on a single character without alts. Dungeons and raids scale well from casual to hardcore, and the community tends toward helpful rather than hostile. The catch is pacing. Early game can feel slow if you're not invested in the world-building, and endgame revolves heavily around weekly lockout raiding and seasonal gear grinds. The free trial is generous though (base game plus first expansion), so you can test whether the slow-burn storytelling and social focus click for you before committing.
