The base game covers every mode you'd expect: MyCAREER (build a player from a 60 overall and work up through the Neighborhood), MyTEAM (assemble a fantasy roster of current and classic players), MyNBA (full franchise/dynasty management), The W (WNBA seasons), and quick Play Now games. The 75th Anniversary Edition specifically throws in 100K Virtual Currency, 10K MyTEAM Points, 10 MyTEAM Tokens, Sapphire cards for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dirk Nowitzki, and Kevin Durant, plus 22 MyTEAM Packs. That starter kit matters a lot because grinding VC from scratch is the game's biggest friction point, and jumping to an 80 overall in MyCAREER on day one changes the feel of the entire early experience. On the court, this is genuinely the most well-balanced entry in recent memory. Defense got a proper overhaul: shot contests actually require you to be in the right position, phantom contests are gone, and defensive positioning now matters at a level it simply did not before. Dribble-heavy isolation ball drains stamina faster, so ball movement and pick-and-roll sets open up more naturally. Shooting uses a redesigned arc meter with customisable feedback animations, and blocking is more spectacular than previous entries. If you are coming off 2K21, the on-court game does feel meaningfully tighter and more tactically satisfying. Here is the honest catch for PC players specifically: the version you get on Steam is current-gen, not next-gen. The City (the big open-world hub with quests and activities) is exclusive to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. On PC you get the Neighborhood, which is a scaled-back social hub. It is functional and the online servers in this version reportedly run smoothly with low input lag, but if you have seen footage of The City and expected that, temper expectations. The game is also best experienced on a controller with analog sticks; keyboard play is technically possible but gamepad is clearly the intended input. MyTEAM has a full Draft mode, Domination challenges, head-to-head online, and the new Seasons structure with themed agendas that run every few weeks and reward cards, tokens, and cosmetics at no extra spend. For a Saturday night session with friends, the Local Co-op and multiplayer tags are there but this is not a couch-party kart racer. It is a simulation. Casuals can lean on the easier difficulty sliders and the shot meter coaching system, but the learning curve is real. New players should expect some patience investment before the depth clicks. The VC economy and microtransaction layer are still present throughout MyCAREER and MyTEAM, and some modes do feel like holdovers from 2K21 without major updates. The 75th Anniversary bundle does cushion that VC wall, which is exactly why it exists.
