The deepest basketball sim on PC, with Shaq on the cover and a mountain of MyCareer content - just know the Virtual Currency grind is relentless unless you lean on that 100K VC head start.

NBA 2K18 Legend Edition is a full-fat basketball simulation from Visual Concepts, and on PC it is the most content-dense version of the sport you can buy. You get the main game plus 100,000 Virtual Currency, 20 weekly MyTeam packs (each with a guaranteed Shaquille O'Neal card), Shaq-themed jerseys, apparel, the Shaq Attaq shoes, and a Championship Ring for your MyPLAYER. That 100K VC matters more than the cosmetics, because the grind from a 60 overall rating to anything competitive is punishing without a running start. On the court, the game holds up well. The Pro Stick control scheme uses the right analogue stick for shooting, layup finishes, and dribble moves, while the left stick handles movement - buttons still work if you prefer a more traditional layout, so newcomers are not locked out. Visual Concepts introduced a new motion system here that generates animations dynamically rather than pulling from a fixed library, which makes player individuality feel tangible. You can actually feel the difference between calling a pick-and-roll with a lumbering centre and running a three-point play around a quick guard. Modes are plentiful: MyCareer drops you into the Neighborhood, an open social hub built around the Proving Ground streetball courts and the Pro-Am circuit; MyTeam is the card-collecting fantasy league mode where Super Max lets you build a salary-capped squad; MyLeague and MyGM cover franchise territory with real Collective Bargaining Agreement mechanics including Bird Rights, G-League stashing, and two-way contracts. Classic and All-Time Teams - all 30 franchises - round things out for anyone who just wants to run dream matchups. Here is the honest caveat, though. The Virtual Currency system, which 2K pushed aggressively in this entry, touches almost everything. Upgrading your MyPLAYER attributes, changing your haircut, buying animations - all VC. The game can even deduct VC for turnovers during play, which is a genuinely bad design call. The 100K you get with this Legend Edition softens the early grind, but it will not carry you to an 85 overall rating on its own - community estimates put that closer to 200K. If you plan to ignore MyCareer entirely and live in MyLeague or offline quick games, this is much less of a problem. For four friends on the couch wanting to run quick exhibition matchups, the core basketball is smooth and readable on gamepad. There is no split-screen listed among the PC features, so manage expectations if that is your main draw. Online play can be inconsistent depending on connection quality, and load times on standard hard drives are long enough to kill the Saturday night momentum - install on an SSD if you can. Bottom line: the basketball itself is excellent, the Neighborhood adds genuine atmosphere, and the Legend Edition's VC and Shaq content give you a meaningful leg up over the standard version. If you can make peace with the monetisation loop and have any love for the NBA, there are dozens of hours of solid sport here. Riley, Scout Team
