Men of War: Assault Squad 2
A 2014 real-time tactics sim that lets you micromanage individual soldiers across 65 WWII maps, deep enough to reward obsessive players, clunky enough to test your patience.
GamerScout Verdict
For RTS veterans comfortable with legacy UI; skip if you need modern polish or AI reliability.

About Men of War: Assault Squad 2
I've spent enough hours in Paradox grand-strategy games to appreciate what Men of War: Assault Squad 2 is trying to do: give you granular control over unit composition, positioning, and loadouts across a sprawling campaign. The Direct Control mechanic lets you pilot individual soldiers, and with 250 vehicles and 200 soldier types across five factions, there's real build variety if you're willing to experiment. Skirmish mode and multiplayer (including LAN co-op) extend playtime beyond the single-player missions. The catch: the 2014 engine shows its age, and the UI feels clunky compared to modern RTS titles. AI pathfinding can betray you at critical moments, and the learning curve isn't gentle. If you played the original Men of War and want more maps and multiplayer depth, it's worth the time investment. Newcomers should expect a tutorial that assumes you've already learned the basics elsewhere.
