Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow
A scrappy 1990s platformer that trades on duck puns and ninja transformation gimmicks, charming if you catch it on sale, rough around the edges either way.
GamerScout Verdict
A nostalgic but clunky 90s platformer that works as a budget option for genre completionists, not must-play material.

About Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow
I picked up Maui Mallard expecting a straightforward action-platformer, and that's mostly what I got: a colorful romp where you play a wise-cracking duck who morphs into a ninja to handle tougher encounters. The transformation mechanic gives levels a light puzzle angle, figuring out when to switch forms keeps things from feeling like pure reflex testing. Movement is floaty and the level design is functional rather than inspired, but there's a nostalgic charm to the whole thing if you're into late-90s Disney game energy. The real catch is the low production value. Animation is stiff, enemy variety is minimal, and the difficulty curve stumbles between trivial and suddenly punishing. If you're hunting for a weekend brain-off platformer and duck-themed puns don't actively repel you, it scratches that itch. Otherwise, there are better action-platformers demanding your time and money.
