Mad Max
A surprisingly solid open-world action game that nails the vehicular combat fantasy even if the story doesn't quite match the 2015 hype.
GamerScout Verdict
Best for players who want thrilling vehicular combat in a sandbox without caring much about story or characterization.

About Mad Max
I spent a solid chunk of time with Mad Max expecting a movie tie-in letdown, but Avalanche Studios actually built something worth your time here. The car combat is the real draw - upgrading and customizing your Magnum Opus feels rewarding, and the ramming, gun-work, and explosions deliver genuine spectacle. The open desert world has personality, and side missions don't feel entirely throwaway. That said, the story is thin and Max himself stays about as animated as a boot. The hand-to-hand combat outside the car feels dated even by 2015 standards, and mission variety runs dry after the halfway point. If you're hunting a post-apocalyptic driving sandbox with meaty vehicle destruction, this scratches that itch better than most. Just don't expect character depth or narrative surprises.
