A micro-priced rotation puzzler from a small Brazilian studio: soothing, unhurried, and just deep enough to justify one quiet evening with hand-drawn medieval cats.

I have a soft spot for games that know exactly what they are and make no apology for it. Hidden Shapes - Cat Realm is one of those games. YAW Studios, a small indie team out of Brazil, built something genuinely unpretentious here: a series of hand-drawn jigsaw-style puzzles set in a minimalist medieval world populated entirely by cats in knight and wizard costumes. There is a thin narrative thread about a hero kitty rescuing a princess from a dragon, but the story is really just set dressing, a mood board to hang the artwork on. And the artwork, while modest in ambition, has a quiet charm to it. The mechanic is simpler than a traditional jigsaw and smarter for it. Every puzzle piece is already in its correct position on the grid. The only problem is that each tile has been rotated 90, 180, or 270 degrees from where it needs to be. You click a piece to rotate it, read the lines and curves as they connect to neighbours, and gradually the full image resolves out of the scramble. There is no timer, no penalty, and a replenishing hint system that lets you auto-correct stubborn pieces if patience runs thin. The result is something close to meditative. The ambient soundtrack does quiet, careful work in the background, the kind of unobtrusive soundscape that makes the room feel a few degrees warmer. That said, there is a recurring issue worth knowing about before you commit. Each puzzle image is split across two versions - Picture A and Picture B - where different characters or elements occupy the same scene. Because the art layers sometimes overlap imperfectly, completing one half can leave isolated lines or shapes that seem to float without connecting to the rest of the image. It does not break the experience, but it gives the finished picture an occasionally unresolved quality, as though you solved a puzzle that was never quite whole to begin with. The art itself, while pleasant, sits closer to functional than striking. If you come in expecting the lush illustration work of something like Iris and the Giant or Mineko's Night Market, you will want to adjust expectations. Who is this for, then. Honestly: non-gamers who like the idea of a puzzle game, people who want something to run in the background of a low-energy evening, or anyone building a Steam achievement collection on a budget. It is also a fair pick for cat people, obviously, though even the most devoted cat enthusiast may feel the theme running thin before the final puzzle. The series has released multiple entries and Cat Realm does not reinvent anything from its predecessors. What you see is what you get, and what you get is gentle, low-stakes, and done in an evening. Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
