Five crafted tools for a game that rewards guerilla thinking - but only committed Generation Zero players will feel the difference at the margins.

I came into this pack hoping it would shake up how Generation Zero's combat feels against its oppressive robot patrols, and the answer is: sometimes, in the right hands, it does. The Tactical Equipment Pack adds five craftable items to your loadout - a Molotov cocktail for clustered targets, a remote-controlled sticky explosive for ambush setups, a deployable machine gun turret that auto-fires on nearby machines, a bullet-resistant portable cover for open-ground fights, and an exploding toy dog lure that doubles as both distraction and trap. That last one is genuinely clever. Watching a Hunter stride over to investigate a barking toy before the whole thing detonates is exactly the kind of dark absurdist joy the base game occasionally nails. The bigger context matters here. Generation Zero started rough at launch and has been rebuilt piecemeal over years of free updates and paid DLC. The base game now sits at Mostly Positive on Steam, and the tone from the community is that it has genuine atmosphere and a satisfying loop of learning machine weak points, scavenging weapons, and picking your battles carefully against enemies that will absolutely punish carelessness. Solo play gets lonely and the machines can feel like bullet sponges, but co-op with two to three players is where the guerilla fantasy actually lands. The Tactical Equipment Pack slots directly into that co-op rhythm: the sentry turret buys breathing room while teammates flank, the portable cover lets someone anchor a position while others reposition, and the lures open up approaches that pure gunplay would close off. The catch is that all five items need to be crafted from materials collected across Osterton, so you are not swimming in them early on. Players who hoard resources and think tactically will get more out of this pack than run-and-gun types who prefer to keep inventory simple. There is also a community-noted point worth flagging: some players feel the base gameplay loop has not shifted dramatically since 2019, meaning this pack adds texture rather than transformation. If you are already fatigued by Generation Zero's pacing, five new gadgets will not fix that. For the right player - someone invested in the base game, playing co-op, and interested in more flexible combat options beyond the gun roster - this pack gives you real tools and some memorable moments. It is a side dish, not a main course, and it knows it. Alex, Scout Team

GamerScout Verdict

Worth it for active co-op players deep in the base game; too niche to justify the buy if you are still on the fence about Generation Zero itself.
