About Euro Truck Simulator 2 - West Balkans (DLC)
Euro Truck Simulator 2 - West Balkans is a map expansion DLC for SCS Software's long-running trucking simulator, adding a region that covers Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Albania. If you've driven the base game's Western European corridors until they feel like muscle memory, this pack genuinely refreshes the loop with road geometry that demands more attention. Expect narrow Adriatic coastal runs, switchback mountain passes, and city centres where a standard trailer feels three meters too wide. From a routing and logistics standpoint, the region slots cleanly into ETS2's existing economy. Jobs flow in and out naturally, border crossings add minor friction that breaks up the autopilot monotony, and the density of smaller settlements means the map rarely feels like a stretch of nothing between paydays. If you track your per-hour earnings rate obsessively (guilty), you'll notice certain cross-Balkans hauls offer competitive pay relative to distance, making the area a viable home base as well as a scenic detour. What works well is the road variety. SCS's environmental team clearly did reference work here. The Adriatic coastline looks noticeably different from the Rhine valley or the Scottish highlands, and the elevation changes through the interior are steep enough to actually matter for heavy cargo weight management. Brake temperature, engine torque curves, and gear-down discipline all come into play on descents in a way that flatter Central European runs don't really demand. For players who treat ETS2 as a soft sim rather than a pure chill experience, this DLC punches harder than most. The downsides are consistent with every SCS map DLC. Some smaller cities feel a bit sparse on landmark detail compared to the more established Western European cities that have had years of patches and updates. A handful of road connections at the borders feel slightly rushed, and first-generation city layouts in a region this new will inevitably get refinement passes over time. The base game tutorial doesn't change with this purchase, which isn't a problem for veterans but worth noting for newer drivers who should get comfortable on the core map before loading up Balkan grades. For newcomers reading this: ETS2 itself is more accessible than its simulation label suggests. The difficulty scales down to arcade-style assists, and the core loop of taking a job, driving, and building out a transport company is immediately readable. This DLC isn't the entry point, but after five or ten hours in the base game you'll be ready for everything it adds. The mod ecosystem around ETS2 is also one of the healthiest on PC, with physics overhauls, additional truck brands, and map mods that integrate with official content including this one. Long-term replay value is genuinely high. Bottom line: if you already own ETS2 and want roads that will actually wake you up a little, West Balkans delivers the terrain variety that makes the simulation side of this game feel relevant again.
