A 1990s-arcade twin-stick that only opens up once you stop shooting droids and start collecting them. Short sessions, deep squad math.

Droid Assault asks for about twenty minutes of your attention before it explains itself, and most of that time you will be playing it wrong. The instinct is to shoot everything, which works for maybe four levels and then quietly stops working. The actual game is recruitment: wear a droid down without destroying it, transfer into it, and haul your growing squad of mismatched robots through arena after arena. Puppygames built the whole thing around that one decision loop, and it holds. Each droid has its own firing arc, speed and durability, so a squad is a running argument between firepower and the tank you need to survive the next room. The pixel work is chunky and unfussy, the explosions are generous, and the soundtrack hums along underneath like an arcade cabinet nobody unplugged. Where it disappoints is texture. Arenas repeat, the visual palette rarely surprises you after the first hour, and score-attack players will get more out of the leaderboards than anyone hunting for structure or story. There is none. But it knows exactly what it is, runs beautifully in fifteen-minute bites, and local split-screen co-op turns the squad management into shouting. That is a fair trade for a game this small. GamerScout Verdict

Worth it for score-chasers and couch co-op players who like tinkering with a squad between twitchy arena runs.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
