CONSCRIPT

I went in expecting another trench-warfare shooter and got something far more intimate instead. Conscript is a top-down action game that treats World War I like a horror movie: you're a young soldier trying to survive, not a hero saving the world. Movement is deliberate, combat is punishing, and the atmosphere is suffocating in the best way. The game leans hard into psychological tension, using sound design and close-quarters encounters to mess with your nerves rather than bombard you with explosions. It's not for players who want feedback and reward loops. If you value survival-horror pacing over action-game responsiveness, and you're willing to sit with discomfort as a design feature, this hits different. The setting is fresh in a genre oversaturated with WW2 nostalgia, and the indie budget never shows because the scope is intentionally small and focused. Just know you're signing up for bleak, deliberate, and slow-burn immersive rather than adrenaline.
