Four maps and two Special Ops missions for a game whose online servers have aged out. Only pull the trigger if you know your lobby is still alive.

My honest first reaction to digging into this one: the content itself is not the problem. Collection 1 bundles four multiplayer and Survival Mode maps - Liberation, Piazza, Overwatch, and Black Box - plus two Special Ops co-op missions in Black Ice and Negotiator, and on paper that is a respectable haul for a single DLC drop. The maps cover genuinely varied ground. Piazza is a tight, sloped Italian coastal village where close-range fights spiral into constant 360-degree paranoia. Liberation opens things up in a militarized Central Park layout that actually gives snipers room to breathe without shutting out run-and-gun players entirely. Overwatch stacks combat across two levels of a skyscraper construction site - think Highrise energy, vertical sightlines, near-symmetrical flow. Black Box drops you into the wreckage of a downed Air Force One in suburban Los Angeles, mixing close-quarters interior scraps with counter-sniping lanes across the debris field. The two Special Ops missions add co-op variety: Black Ice puts you on snowmobiles infiltrating a diamond mine, while Negotiator is a hostage-rescue scenario set in Northern India. Both are short but competently built and hold up better than people remember. The design quality, though, was always secondary to the bigger argument about whether this content added anything the base game could not already deliver. Critics at the time landed somewhere in the middle: the maps were well-constructed and noticeably brighter in palette than Modern Warfare 3's grey-brown campaign levels, but the formula never surprised anyone. You get more MW3 - same TTK, same killstreak loops, same spawn logic complaints the community had been filing since launch. If that loop was already wearing thin for you before Collection 1, four new arenas will not fix it. The Mac OS X label here also deserves a flag. This is listed as a Mac key for a DLC that was already a late PC arrival - console players had it months earlier. That version history matters less now than the server reality: Modern Warfare 3's PC population has shrunk dramatically since 2012, and finding populated lobbies running Collection 1 maps specifically is not guaranteed. DLC maps frequently fragment player pools even in healthy games; in a game this old, the fragmentation risk is real. If you are part of a friend group that still runs MW3 sessions regularly, this pack gives you solid, well-designed maps that hold up mechanically. For everyone else, the content is essentially gated behind a population problem that no map quality can solve. Bottom line: the maps are fine, arguably above average for CoD DLC of that era, and the Special Ops missions give co-op a small but welcome shot of variety. The honest issue is not the content - it is the clock. Alex, Scout Team

GamerScout Verdict

Worth it only for active MW3 groups - the maps are solid but a near-empty player pool is the real obstacle.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
