AVA: Dark History

I went in expecting a story-driven adventure and found myself getting wrecked by deliberate, demanding platforming instead. AVA: Dark History is a hardcore 2D sidescroller set in the dark world of Koutei, where every jump, wall-slide, and enemy encounter is designed to make you restart. The pixel art is moody and cohesive, and if you're the kind of player who loves tight controls and brutal level design without hand-holding, there's something satisfying here. The catch: this is a niche experience with zero concessions to modern expectations. No checkpoints, sparse story beats, minimal tutorials. It works great if you're chasing that retro-difficult platformer feeling, but most players expecting narrative payoff will bounce hard. It's honest about what it is, which means it knows exactly who it's for and doesn't pretend otherwise.
