About Assault Squad 2: Men of War Origins
My squad of four riflemen lost a Panzer IV because one of them, on direct control, put a single grenade under the rear hull. That is the whole pitch for Origins in one sentence: no health bars abstracting the fight away, just armor angles, ammo counts, and a soldier you can drive like a twin-stick shooter when the AI fumbles. This is the original Men of War campaigns rebuilt on the Assault Squad 2 engine, so you get sharper visuals, better pathing and improved AI over the 2009 build, plus the inventory system where every crate, corpse and knocked-out tank is a supply depot. Released in 2016, it still runs deeper than most modern RTS. The cost is real. The tutorial barely respects newcomers, the interface is a relic, and squad AI will happily walk into a machine gun while you are micromanaging elsewhere. Budget your first ten hours for learning, not winning. Where it pays off is the long tail: skirmish, PvP, online co-op, a level editor and a Workshop library that has been feeding this engine for over a decade. Come for the campaign, stay for the mods.
