A point-and-click adventure with one of gaming's more inventive premises: an immortal man who loses his memory every time he dies, told across 500 years of genuinely strange history.

I went into Yesterday Origins expecting a competent but forgettable European adventure game. What I didn't expect was to still be thinking about its premise two days after finishing it. You play as John Yesterday and his girlfriend Pauline, two immortals trying to piece together the ritual that originally granted John his condition. The catch that makes it interesting: John forgets everything each time he resurrects, while Pauline retains all her memories. That asymmetry does real narrative work, and it carries the whole thing. The story jumps between the Spanish Inquisition of the 1480s, where a young John (then called Miguel) is imprisoned for the apparently criminal ability to speak every language, and the present day, where the two run an antiques shop in Paris while being hunted by people who want their secret. It sounds like a lot to juggle, and occasionally it is, but Pendulo's pacing is confident enough to keep you oriented. The voice acting holds up well, the visual style sits in an interesting middle ground between comic-book illustration and grounded realism, and the soundtrack shifts moods capably even if individual tracks repeat more than they should. Where the game creates friction is exactly where the genre always does. The puzzle logic ranges from satisfying to genuinely baffling. Most of the time you're combining inventory items and applying them to environmental hotspots, which is classic point-and-click fare, but some solutions demand a leap of intuition the game doesn't really earn. There's no hint system, so when you're stuck you're either experimenting with every item on every surface or reaching for a walkthrough. The puzzle structure also leans heavily on a single template: find item, combine, apply, repeat. It works in short bursts but starts to feel mechanical by the midpoint. A few minor bugs and glitches have been reported across versions, though nothing that typically blocks progress on PC. The honest audience for this one is clear. If you grew up on LucasArts or Sierra adventures, or you've enjoyed Broken Sword or the Runaway series, Yesterday Origins will feel like a comfortable fit with a better-than-average story attached. If you've never had patience for pixel-hunting or opaque item logic, the premise alone won't be enough to carry you through the rougher stretches. It's a game that does one thing exceptionally well, which is make you care about its two leads across centuries, even when the puzzles around them are working against that momentum. Alex, Scout Team
