About Yakuza: Like a Dragon Hero Edition
I keep pitching this as Dragon Quest relocated to a Yokohama back alley, and the difference that matters is Ichiban Kasuga. He is not a chosen one, he is a middle-aged ex-yakuza starting over homeless, and the turn-based combat is his delusion made literal: street thugs become bosses in his head. The job system (Hero, Bodyguard, Idol, Breaker, Chef) runs deeper than the goofy costumes suggest, and Poundmates summons keep fights unpredictable. What drags: the back half spikes hard enough that you will grind or detour into the business management minigame, and street encounters get tiresome once you have seen every animation. The side content is where the hours actually go, karaoke, Dragon Kart, substories that swing from absurd to quietly sad. Hero Edition's bundled job and costume sets ease the early curve rather than change the game. Come for the crime drama, stay for Ichiban.
