Thorne - Son of Slaves (Ep.2)
A 2016 indie action-RPG where you play a mercenary clawing out of slavery in a grimdark world, but combat depth and tutorial clarity matter more than the premise.
GamerScout Verdict
For strategy players willing to learn by trial: a rough tactical action-RPG with real build depth beneath its grimdark facade.

About Thorne - Son of Slaves (Ep.2)
I approached Thorne expecting a straightforward hack-and-slash, but it's more deliberate than that. You're managing contracts, managing inventory, and managing combat positioning - the strategic layer sits underneath the action veneer. The problem: the game doesn't explain its systems well enough for newcomers. There's a trading system, ability trees, and gear progression, but tooltips are sparse and the difficulty curve is unforgiving early on. If you're patient enough to grind through the first few hours, the decision-making around build choices and contract sequencing reveals itself. This isn't a AAA production - the environments repeat, dialogue is sparse, and animations are serviceable. But for strategy-minded players who don't mind rough edges and want a tactical Action-RPG that respects resource management, Thorne scratches that itch. Just know going in that this is a learning-by-doing experience, not a hand-held one.
