The Walking Dead: A New Frontier - The Complete Season (Episodes 1-5)
Season three of Telltale's Walking Dead takes a calculated risk by handing the reins to a brand-new protagonist. Whether that gamble pays off depends entirely on how attached you are to Clementine.
GamerScout Verdict
Best for Telltale series completionists and story-first players who can accept Clementine in a reduced supporting role.

About The Walking Dead: A New Frontier - The Complete Season (Episodes 1-5)
I went into A New Frontier already deep in Clementine's story, and the pivot to Javier Garcia caught me off guard in the best and worst ways simultaneously. This is the third season of Telltale's episodic Walking Dead series, spread across five episodes, and it runs on the same formula the studio built its reputation on: dialogue-heavy scenes, branching choices, quick-time events in combat, and the constant, nagging suspicion that a different answer would have saved someone you liked. Javier himself is a genuinely solid lead. A disgraced ex-baseball player suddenly responsible for his brother's wife, Kate, and her kids Gabe and Mariana, he earns sympathy fast, and the family tension at the core of the season gives the writing real weight when it works. The complicated dynamic between Javier, Kate, and his estranged brother David is one of the more interesting relationship tangles the series has attempted. Clementine is here too, older and harder, showing up as a supporting character whose past with the titular New Frontier organization threads the two storylines together. The problem is the balance: fans expecting her at the center will feel the absence sharply, and the season never fully resolves whether it wants to be Javier's story or hers. On the mechanical side, expect nothing new. Quick-time events handle the action, slow environment traversal fills the gaps, and basic inventory puzzles pad the time between story beats. The fight sequences do feel a touch more dynamic than previous seasons, with added gun-aiming sections that borrow some energy from Telltale's Batman work, but the core loop has not evolved. Choice permanence remains the emotional engine: there is no rewind, and living with a call you regret is still the sharpest tool in the game's kit. Returning players should also brace for the fact that the game handles save imports from season two in a way that frustrated a vocal chunk of the community, softening or outright ignoring some of the harder endings from that season. The complete season package is the sensible way to play this. Individual episode cliffhangers were clearly designed to sell episodic releases, and back-to-back play irons out the pacing. Episode four is where the season finds its footing most convincingly, landing the kind of ugly, no-good-option choices the series is known for. The finale is messier but functional. If you have zero history with the prior seasons, the opening episode does offer a recap and some flashback framing to orient newcomers, though the emotional payoff on Clementine's scenes will land considerably harder if you have already put time into seasons one and two. This is a middle-tier entry in a series capable of genuine brilliance. It does not reach the highs of season one's Lee-and-Clementine partnership, and the technical roughness (clipping characters, occasional dialogue logic errors) keeps it from feeling polished. But for players who want a story-first apocalypse game with real stakes and a protagonist worth following for roughly eight to ten hours, it delivers enough to justify the time.
