Tex Murphy: Mean Streets
A 1989 noir detective adventure that got remade in 2014 with live-action video and point-and-click mystery solving, janky but charming if you're into old-school adventure games.
GamerScout Verdict
For adventure game enthusiasts willing to embrace its B-movie aesthetic and dated production values.

About Tex Murphy: Mean Streets
I went in expecting a janky remake of a game older than I am, and that's exactly what I got. Tex Murphy is a private eye in 2033 San Francisco investigating a professor's death that spirals into something bigger. You navigate pre-recorded live-action scenes, click around for clues, and puzzle through dialogue trees that feel more authentic for their awkwardness than any modern mo-cap cutscene. It's rough. The acting is community-theater earnest, the production values are deliberately retro, and the interface will frustrate anyone expecting modern QoL. But if you loved the original or you're the type who finds charm in mid-budget adventure games that know what they are, this scratches that itch. It's short, it's weird, and it commits to its weird. Not for everyone, but exactly right for its people.
