I went in wanting straightforward fun with the Turtles, and Mutants Unleashed delivers exactly that for the first few stages. The split-screen co-op works smoothly, the turtle roster feels distinct enough, and there's real charm in the banter. But after the honeymoon phase, the game reveals itself as a shallow button-masher where every encounter blurs into the last. Levels are short and linear, enemy variety is low, and the difficulty swings wildly between trivial and cheap rather than genuinely scaling. It's not broken, just predictable. This lands squarely in "good for a lazy afternoon with a friend" territory, not "game you'll finish and remember fondly." If you're hunting for classic arcade TMNT vibes on modern hardware, you'll get that. If you want a beat-em-up with depth, look elsewhere.
