Sanctum
Tower Defense meets first-person shooter, where you build mazes and shoot aliens simultaneously. Niche, but genuinely inventive if you're willing to learn its systems.
GamerScout Verdict
For strategy players who want to shoot things instead of watching automation, unique enough to warrant a look if co-op depth appeals to you.

About Sanctum
Sanctum is a 2013 hybrid that nailed a concept most studios wouldn't touch: real-time tower defense played from an FPS camera. You build defensive structures to funnel enemy waves, then pick up a gun and defend the objective yourself. The core loop works. Four character classes offer distinct playstyles (damage, support, crowd control, mobility), and the build-order decisions matter. Upgrading paths between rounds reward planning, not just reflexes. The weak spot is obvious: it's stuck in 2013 tech, and the solo campaign paces awkwardly. Multiplayer co-op is where the real depth opens up. If you find the audience, the interplay between tower placement and live combat is genuinely tactical. It's not for everyone, but strategy-minded FPS players who respect building games will find something worth their time.
