Oriental Empires: Three Kingdoms
A standalone Three Kingdoms grand-strategy sim where battles resolve on the campaign map, not a separate tactical layer. Patience required, spectacle not included.
GamerScout Verdict
Worth it for patient 4X builders who want economy and edicts over battle micromanagement; skip if you want Total War.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.
Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.
We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.

About Oriental Empires: Three Kingdoms
This one is for players who want a slow, systems-heavy Chinese empire builder and who genuinely do not miss controlled tactical battles. If you came looking for something in the Total War mold, walk away now, because Oriental Empires resolves combat automatically on the same hex-ish campaign map where you built the roads that fed the army. That design choice is the whole game. Your real levers are settlement growth, food logistics, edicts, culture and unrest, and the tech web you unlock over dozens of turns. Playing as a Tyrant, Warlord or Barbarian changes the shape of the opening more than most standalone spinoffs bother with. Where it disappoints is polish and pacing. The AI is competent at expansion and clumsy at defence, mid-game turns start blurring together once your economy stabilises, and the tutorial explains buttons rather than priorities, which is rough for a game this opaque. Workshop support and multiplayer (including co-op) extend the life if you have a friend willing to sit through turn timers. Roughly 30 hours in, it earns its keep as a quiet builder, not a spectacle.
