Compare Oriental Empires: Genghis prices across trusted key stores and find the best deal. Developed by Shining Pixel Studios. Published by Iceberg Interactive. Released on 11/13/2018. Available on PC. Genres: Indie, Simulation, Strategy.

A slow, tall-tech 4X where your first fifty turns are farms and roads, not cavalry charges. The Genghis campaign is the best on-ramp it has.

Before this one gives you anything, it wants roughly three hours of patience and a willingness to watch numbers move. Oriental Empires: Genghis asks you to sit with peasant food surpluses, unrest ticks, and slow tech unlocks while your settlements crawl up from nothing, and the Genghis campaign frames that as a story: you start as an outcast with almost nothing and build toward the Khan. The simultaneous-turn resolution is the standout mechanic. Everyone commits orders, then the turn plays out at once, which makes army positioning feel like a real bet rather than a chess move you already know the answer to. Battles resolve as mass formations on the campaign map, no separate tactical layer, and the new units, buildings and resources here give the Mongol side a genuinely different economic shape. Where it disappoints is the AI and the presentation. Opponents expand competently but rarely punish a badly defended flank, so once you understand the food-to-population loop the late game flattens out. The tutorial explains buttons more than build order, and mixed Steam sentiment mostly comes from people bouncing off that opacity rather than from bugs. Workshop support and multiplayer exist, though the player pool is thin. Come for the slow economy, not the war. Diego, Scout Team

GamerScout Verdict

Worth it if simultaneous-turn 4X economics excite you more than tactical combat; skip if you want smart, aggressive AI.

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
