One of the tightest fighting games of its generation, bundled here with Kombat Pack 1, the Samurai Pack, and Goro, more roster and more carnage right out of the box.

I've spent more time than I'd like to admit just sitting on the character select screen in Mortal Kombat X, cycling through variations trying to decide how I want to lose. That's not a diss, it's the sign of a fighting game that actually makes roster decisions feel meaningful. The variation system is the headline mechanic here: every character ships with three distinct move-set builds, so Sub-Zero players choose between ice weapons, ice clones, or hardened armor, and Scorpion mains pick between sword-focused, fire-based, or demon-assist styles. Multiply that across a roster that includes returning legends alongside newer faces like Kotal Kahn, and the number of matchup combinations you'd need to study is genuinely staggering. Beyond the variation system, the fundamentals are sharp. The super meter, borrowed from Street Fighter's playbook, lets you interrupt an opponent's combo by burning two bars, which keeps fights from feeling like one-sided beatdowns the moment you get cornered. X-Ray moves land like cinematic ultra combos and deal heavy damage, while Brutalities give you a flashier alternative to the classic Fatality if your timing is right. Interactable stage objects add a layer of arena control, swinging off vines, bouncing off walls, or hurling bystanders at your opponent, that keeps even veteran players guessing. The Klassic Tower is here for the arcade purists, but the Living Towers (hourly, daily, and premiere variants with rotating modifiers) and the Test Your Luck mode with its randomized match conditions give single-player sessions serious legs. The story mode deserves a mention because NetherRealm put real effort into it. It is pulpy, gloriously dumb in places, and surprisingly cinematic, think a big-budget Saturday morning cartoon that has no qualms about showing a spine leave a body. For a genre that historically treats narrative as an afterthought, MKX's story is something other developers should have been studying. The Premium Edition bundles Kombat Pack 1, which adds four DLC fighters, Jason Voorhees, Predator, Tanya, and Tremor, each with their own skin packs, plus the Samurai Pack skins for Kitana, Shinnok, and Kenshi. Goro, originally a pre-order character, rounds out the package. It is a meaningful amount of extra content for anyone who wants the fullest possible experience from day one. The PC version has a complicated history. At launch it was rough, patchy performance, online stability issues, and delayed DLC compared to console. Most of that has since been addressed through patches, and the current state of the game on Steam is serviceable, backed by an 86% positive rating across over sixty thousand reviews. Online play is functional, though the high-skill ceiling means matchmaking at lower ranks can feel punishing. If your main interest is couch competition or solo grinding through towers, none of that will affect you. If ranked online is your priority, go in with tempered expectations and a willingness to study frame data, helpfully, startup frames are displayed right in the menus. This edition makes the most sense for anyone who skipped MKX the first time around or came in after the DLC dropped. The guest character roster alone, Jason and Predator sharing a game with Scorpion and Sub-Zero, is a novelty that still holds up. It is a feature-complete, content-heavy package from a franchise that was firing on all cylinders at this point in its history. Alex, Scout Team

Every store in this table quotes us in euros, so the EUR figure is the price the seller actually set, not our arithmetic — which is why EUR is also the currency we rank in. We only list an offer here when the store gives us its price in euros, so nothing in this table is a number we invented.

Pick USD, PLN, GBP, CAD or AUD in the header and we convert from EUR at the European Central Bank reference rate — converted amounts are prefixed with ~. Your bank or the store may apply a different rate at checkout. We never hide offers based on where you are: everyone sees this whole table.

We may earn a commission when you buy games through links on this page — at no extra cost to you. It never affects our rankings or verdicts.
