The cartoony sprite work and explosive sound design stay faithful to the franchise, and the unit roster gives you genuine strategic breadth, heavy tanks, air support, artillery roles all matter depending on the stage layout. The catch: it's skeleton-crew content. Multiplayer exists (both PvE and PvP modes), controller support is solid, but there's no sprawling campaign to justify 100 hours here. It's a weekend diversion for tower defense enthusiasts who want Metal Slug's personality grafted onto their genre, not a reason to abandon your main strategy rotation. The tutorial ramps you up without hand-holding, which I appreciate, though the meta-progression loop (unit upgrades, collection grinding) will either click with you or feel like churn within the first 2-3 hours.
