GamerScout Verdict
For series veterans tired of the original UI, but newer players will find stronger 4X alternatives.

About Master of Magic Remake
I went in expecting a straight-up nostalgia play, and Master of Magic Remake mostly delivers on that. You pick a wizard, shape the world, summon creatures, cast spells, and crush rivals across two planes of existence. The core loop is addictive: research new magic schools, build armies, exploit mana nodes. The remake retains the original's obsessive depth without the DOS-era friction of navigating 16-color menus. The problem is execution. UI improvements help, but the AI is sluggish, and some balance tweaks feel arbitrary rather than clarifying. It's not a broken game, just an uneven modernization. If you bounced off the 1994 original due to interface pain, this fixes that. If you've never played the series, Dominions or Endless Legend might scratch the same itch with tighter design. Metacritic's 78 feels about right, competent remake, not essential.
