Love Is All Around is a Full Motion Video romance game from Chinese indie studio intiny, and 'strategy' here means choosing dialogue options, not building supply lines. Get that expectation squared away and it's actually a more competent piece of interactive entertainment than its premise suggests. You play as Gu Yi, a broke, debt-ridden art gallery worker who, against all logic, finds six women competing for his attention. The core loop is simple: watch real filmed footage shot with live actresses, make dialogue choices every minute or so, and accumulate 'affection' points across all six characters. Chapter progression is gated by a total affection threshold rather than any single relationship, which means you cannot laser-focus on one girl and ignore the rest. That design quirk frustrates players who expect a traditional branching route, and reviewers have noted it can feel arbitrary when you hit a wall mid-chapter. The workaround is fast rewinding to earlier scenes, which the game supports cleanly. Across a full playthrough you're looking at something in the range of six to twelve hours depending on how many of the twelve possible endings you chase. What actually works is the pacing. Each chapter moves quickly, cycling through activities like street food runs, a card game of pontoon with one of the leads, shopping trips, and workplace scenes, all filmed in real locations. The actresses commit to their archetypal roles, and while some voices are dubbed even in the Chinese track, the performances carry the material. Hidden scene clues add a minor environmental-exploration layer on top of the basic choice system, rewarding players who click around rather than skipping straight to the next decision. The English subtitles have some translation roughness throughout, and a handful of scene transitions are visibly choppy, but neither issue is severe enough to break the experience. Where the game falls short for anyone expecting meaningful branching is the narrative structure. The story largely converges to the same checkpoints regardless of your choices; it is the ending chapter assigned to each girl, not the journey, where your accumulated affection score actually matters. Players wanting Bandersnatch-style divergence will be underwhelmed. Players who just want a light, wholesome, genuinely funny Chinese romance drama in interactive form will get exactly that. The game became a genuine cultural moment, spawning a sequel and a wave of imitators, and the community-built English guides on Steam make achievement hunting straightforward if that is your angle. Fair warning on content: the base game is wholesome to a fault, but an optional DLC adds more explicit material. The base experience is closer to a daytime TV romance drama than anything adult. If you are purely a systems-and-depth player, this will not scratch that itch.
